Financial Literacy

Financial literacy is a cornerstone of our support for prospective and current homeowners. At Hope for Homes, we offer comprehensive financial education classes that cover budgeting, understanding credit, managing debt, and planning for the future. Our goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to take control of their finances, reducing barriers to homeownership and fostering long-term stability.

WHY COST OF HOME MATTERS.

We understand the crucial importance of affordability in housing. A family should never have to spend more than 30% of their income on a home. Yet, statistics from the Carolinas show that nearly 1 in 5 families spent more than half their income on housing in 2021. Traditional mortgage lenders often qualify buyers for up to 35% of their income, based on wages from jobs in industries like gas stations, restaurants, and grocery stores, which typically pay $13.00 an hour or less. This results in a qualifying mortgage amount of $788—a figure that is realistically unattainable in today’s market. We aim to be a solution to this problem, helping to make the stability and security of owning a home more accessible for all families.

GOOD CAN BE DONE.
